Golf Club Sokolov / CZ
Sokolov, Karlsbad region, Czech Republic |
|---|
Opening year 2006 |
Number of holes: 18 |
The golf course was built 430 m above sea level on a slag heap left over from earlier brown coal mining, and was part of a re-cultivation program. Holes range between different plateaus, producing great views over changes height in of up to 42 m. This also creates extremely varied sporting challenges.
The poor soil conditions required technically very complicated planning. All the construction materials (sand and gravel) for the greens and tees, and above all the entire topsoil for the fairways and semi-roughs had to be trucked in from outside.
A spacious golf course developed on an area of around 100 hectares which, with its large number of exceptional holes, ranks among the best in the Czech Republic.
