Renovation 2009/2010 |
Number of holes: 27 |
Project Manager: Städler & Decker |
Against international competition, we won the contract from Golf Club Essen-Heidhausen to renovate and redesign individual holes and playing elements.

Our improvements created superb playing conditions and good looks, in particular due to the strategic placing and uniform design of the bunkers. Also included in the upgrade are several ponds that demand strategic play.

In time for its 40th anniversary, the club treated itself to a complete renovation with a modern irrigation system and some 50 new bunkers. The bunkers with their light-coloured sand have already become a trademark of the club. Christoph Städler is the architect responsible for the revamp.
Now a big name in golfing himself, Christoph Städler displays respect for the work of the old master Donald Harradine in Essen: “We wanted to rejuvenate the course while preserving its character. The bunkers weren’t where they should have been for the longer pitch lengths. And they were too different in shape and construction. We changed that because bunkers aren’t just there to influence play and strategy, they also need to look good.”

"The now gently rolling 9-hole course 'Schauinsland' upgraded by Christoph Städler is a real gem at the town’s most beautiful viewpoint. It rewards players with breathtaking vistas far across the surrounding countryside."
