Renovation 2006/2007 |
Number of holes: 18 |
Project Manager: Althaus & Städler |
Researching the background of Frankfurt Golf Club while we drew up a renovation plan, we discovered its major role in golfing history in Germany. Originally, the 18-hole course was designed by the English golf architect Harry S. Colt (1869 – 1951), who was at that time the most famous golf architect in Europe.
Colt only designed two golf courses in Germany: in Frankfurt and in Hamburg (Falkenstein). They may be of a venerable age, but these two courses are still among the best and most challenging in Germany today. That’s a testimony to the exceptional class of their design. Typical for the greens on Colt courses are distinctive undulations and clear definitions between sections. However, in this respect the greens in Frankfurt are different. They all feature only gently undulating putting greens.
From this starting point, the renovation originally planned to merely cover re-construction of the greens was extended to include more marked modelling. We believe the greens now come closer in style to the classic Colt design.
