Lübeck-Travemünder Golf-Klub von 1921

alt

The Lübeck-Travemünde Golf Club is the second oldest golf club in Schleswig-Holstein after Kiel-Kitzeberg: it was founded in 1921 and therefore celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021.

The first 6 holes were still on the racecourse. In 1928, the first “real” golf course was laid out on the Brodtener Ufer site, albeit not with holes in their current form. This did not happen until 1949, when a contemporary 9-hole course was laid out on the existing site. These 9 holes lasted for 40 years until 1990, when the expansion to 18 holes designed by Udo Barth began and opened in May 1992. Just 9 years later, a further 9 holes were put into operation, this time designed by Karl F. Grohs.

As the architectural “design language” of the three 9-hole courses is visibly different, the club's board has set itself the goal of harmonizing them as much as possible in 2021. At the same time, obsolete obstacles are to be removed, misplaced obstacles are to be moved to suitable locations and current holes are to be provided with strategically sensible and visually attractive obstacles in the “runway design”. In addition, necessary structural renovations are to be carried out.

We consider the overarching objective of our course development concept for the Lübeck-Travemünde Golf Club to be to make suggestions for improvements that increase the enjoyment of the game and make the courses fairer for players with medium and higher handicaps, but at the same time more challenging for ambitious players. The first construction work began at the start of 2025.
