Construction of the 18-hole, links-type course 'Haxterhöhe' was initiated by Helmut Böhmer, the Managing Director of the non-profit Haxterpark GmbH and the Golf Academy of the University of Paderborn. The university is a cooperation partner in the project and will also use the course.
Apart from golf, the activities on offer will include therapeutic riding, archery, climbing and boule – all with a link to sports medicine. There will also be a social integration element: up to 60 people with disadvantages on the employment market, especially disabled people, will be offered full jobs. The first 16 people involved in the support programme will work mainly on maintenance of the golf course, but also in catering.
The course opened in autumn 2011 – also for the University Golf Club with its 780 members who until then were limited to the Golf Academy’s 9-hole course.
